Dehls Gourmet
Located in the heart of the Quayside neighbourhood, Dehls Gourmet is a new standout dining spot that brings a taste of authentic Afrocentric dishes to the local community. This new restaurant has quickly gained recognition for its delicious and fresh offerings that leave patrons craving for more.
One standout dish from their menu is the Jollof and chicken, a flavorful combination that many customers rave about. The expertly prepared Jollof rice paired with perfectly cooked chicken creates a culinary sensation that represents the essence of Afrocentric cuisine. It came with a small dish of Shito, a house-made smoked fish, shrimp, and chilli sauce which elevated the flavours to another level.
In addition to the Jollof and chicken, Dehls Gourmet is also renowned for its generous and flavourful Jamaican Patties. These hearty patties are not only sizable but also bursting with authentic Jamaican spices that transport diners to the vibrant streets of Jamaica with every bite.
To complement the delectable dishes, Dehls Gourmet also offers a selection of fresh pressed juices that serve as the perfect accompaniment to the bold flavours of their Afrocentric cuisine. Whether you're looking for a refreshing beverage or a health-conscious option, their fresh pressed juices are sure to satisfy.
Delali (the owner) was very warm and friendly and eager to share her story and food with us. While Dehls mostly does catering and take out, she hinted at pop-up events with guest chefs promising an inviting dining experience. The restaurant was a little bare when we visited but they are having a grand opening on Saturday, July 27th and will be in full service soon thereafter.
For those seeking a culinary adventure that explores the vibrant and diverse flavours of Afrocentric cuisine, Dehls Gourmet in Quayside is a must-visit destination. With its dedication to serving delicious, authentic, and fresh dishes, this restaurant is a treasure trove for food enthusiasts looking to expand their palate and experience a taste of Africa and the Caribbean right here in New Westminster's own backyard.
