The Quay - Easy
The Quay in New Westminster offers a picturesque and invigorating setting for runners of all levels. The waterfront boardwalk provides a scenic route with stunning views of the Fraser River, showcasing the natural beauty of the area.
The well-maintained paths and pedestrian-friendly atmosphere make it easy for runners to enjoy a safe and comfortable workout. With ample space along the boardwalk, you can embrace the fresh air and peaceful ambiance while clocking in your miles. Additionally, the flat terrain of the Quay is ideal for those seeking a smooth and uninterrupted running experience.
Every Wednesday evening, Steel & Oak run club runs this path in either a 3.5 km or 5 km run follow by a 1/2 priced beer! It’s free to join and open to all running levels.
Queen's Park Loop - Medium
Queen's Park stands as a beloved oasis for locals seeking a moment of respite from the bustling city life. Spanning 75 acres, this lush green space offers a tranquil escape for runners looking to immerse themselves in nature while getting their daily dose of exercise.
From seasoned marathoners to casual joggers, Queen's Park provides a picturesque backdrop for all levels of runners. Just like most of New West, it is a bit hilly in some sections which is the best and worst part of this loop. Great for mixing up your run but painful if you aren’t ready for the challenge.
Right around the Victoria Hill overpass, there is an outdoor callisthenics gym that can help to break up your run. A few push-ups and sit ups will help to round out your workout in a picturesque setting. The full loop around Queen’s is about 2.6 km with some moderate hills. Although short, the hilly terrain will make it seem much longer!
BC Parkway - Hard
This multi-use path stretches from Vancouver to New Westminster, passing through Burnaby, and provides a peaceful and car-free environment for outdoor enthusiasts. The BC Parkway trail is well-maintained and perfect for both casual joggers and seasoned runners. It does offer some elevation for a more challenging run to get your heart rate going.
One of the highlights of running on the BC Parkway is the beautiful scenery along the way. As you run through Burnaby and New West, you'll pass by lush greenery, charming neighborhoods, and even catch glimpses of the Fraser River. The peaceful pathway make for a pleasant run, allowing you to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Whether you prefer a short, leisurely run or a longer distance for a more intense workout, the BC Parkway has something to offer for everyone. From 6th ave and 12th street in New West to Central Park and back is about 18km. You can easily tailor your distance to suit your level of training and fitness!
There are a few washrooms and water fountains along the way. One at Grimston Park, another at Ron Maclean Park, and then another at Central Park in Burnaby so plan accordingly.
