Neighbourhood Spotlight: The Quay

Downtown’s waterfront, the Quay, is a buzzing spot for locals and tourists alike. The Fraser River has a long history as a mighty companion to BC commerce and industry, with the role of tugboats holding a special place in New Westminster’s heart. The annual RiverFest New West is an adventure for the whole family, where you can see tugboats in action, learn about their history, and partake in other river-themed events. Next to the Quay, the River Market brings together farmers, bakers, and artisans to add a rich, cultural shopping experience to downtown New Westminster. This will also be the site of the upcoming new Bosa buildings “Pier West” which is nearing completion and will reopen the a green space throughway from Rivermarket to Pier Park.

Fun fact: the world’s tallest Tin Soldier is located right outside the river market and is attracts tourists and locals as a steadfast landmark in our city.
